Km: 193 Granada – Ilha de Ometepe – Liberia

Hoje saímos as 6:00 da manha de Granada e seguimos em direção a Rivas. Fomos pesquisar sobre o barco que vai até a Ilha de Ometepe. Apesar de não termos muito tempo a intenção era de visitar a ilha e assim foi feito. Sábia decisão. Ilha de Ometepe com seus vulcões, o Lago de Nicarágua em toda sua volta é simplesmente maravilhoso e acabamos por descobrir que aqui podemos chamar de paraíso.
Contratamos um guia que nos levou para conhecer um pedaço da ilha apenas devido ao nosso tempo curtíssimo – a ilha é a maior ilha de água doce no mundo, com mais de 200km quadrados de área.
Valeu cada centavo e minuto. As praias sao maravilhosas, água muito limpa e também visitamos o famoso “olho de agua” que são piscinas naturais de água vulcanica. Ahhh se tivéssemos mais tempo… Ilha de Ometepe, com certeza voltaremos para explora-la melhor.
Nicarágua deixará saudades, com certeza voltaremos.
Da Ilha de Ometepe seguimos para Costa Rica, cruzamos a fronteira em Penas Brancas. Acabou demorando mais do que esperávamos. Muitos guichês para ir e cópias e mais cópias de papeis aqui e ali.
Notavelmente tudo começou a melhorar não só a fronteira em si, mas a limpeza também. As estradas de Nicarágua são ótimas e até agora Costa Rica não nos decepcionou também. Tudo muito bem sinalizado e limpo! Incrível. Agora vemos quanta sujeira deixamos realmente para trás.
A ideia era de irmos até Monte Verde, mas devido a visita a Ilha de Ometepe e mais fronteira infelizmente não deu para chegar. Não queremos viajar a noite por mais que as estradas sejam boas. Chegamos em Libéria e aqui dormiremos esta noite.
Adeus Nicarágua, voltaremos qualquer dia desses.

Today we left at 6am from Granada and we headed to Rivas. We researched about the boat that goes to the Ometepe Island. Although we don’t have much time, the intention was to visit the island, and that is what we did. Wise decision… The Ometepe Island with its volcanoes, the Nicaragua lake all around is simply wonderful and we discovered that here we can call paradise.
We hired a guide that took us to visit a small portion of the island due to our tight schedule – by the way, the island is the largest sweet water island in the world with more than 200 sq kilometers. It was worth every penny and the time we spent there. The beaches are wonderful, very clean water and we also visited the famous “water eye” with natural volcanic water swimming pool. We wish we had more time… Ometepe island, for sure we will be back to better explore.
After Omotepe Island we went towards Costa Rica, we crossed the border at Penas Brancas. The border cross took more time than we expected. Too many booths to go and copies and more copies of the documents.
We noticed that everything is better as soon as we arrive at the border cross, not just the border itself but we are surprised how clean the roads are. Roads in Nicaragua are great and in Costa Rica it did not disappoint us so far. Everything is clean and well signalized. Only now we realize how much dirt we left behind.
The initial plan was to go up to Monte Verde in Costa Rica. However, due to the visit to the Ometepe island, we could not make it. As we don’t want to ride during the night, we stayed in Liberia and here we will sleep.
Goodbye Nicaragua, we will be back…
